abstract: I have come to appreciate how the School of Business and Economics has strengthened my professional skills. Experiences such as the IANA Expo and case competition allowed me to apply classroom concepts to real-world challenges and helped me grow as a person and as a student. Overall, these opportunities and meaningful networking experiences have prepared me to enter the workforce with confidence and a clear vision for my future career.
As I approach graduation and prepare to enter the professional world, I have developed a deep
appreciation for the experiences and education I have received within the School of Business
and Economics. Throughout my coursework, one of the most valuable skills I have developed is
confidence in public speaking. Presenting frequently across multiple classes has significantly
strengthened my ability to communicate ideas clearly and professionally. This is a skill that
continues to benefit me in my career when I am collaborating with a team, presenting in a
meeting, and even networking.
One specific impactful experience, made possible by the SBE, was the opportunity to participate in the IANA Expo and case competition. At the competition, my team and I had five hours to analyze a real-world issue being faced by a company, propose a solution, and create a polished presentation to later present to a board of judges. It pushed me to think critically, work as part of a team under pressure, and develop solutions to complex problems, which are skills that I have directly applied to my internship and will apply to my future career.
Additionally, the networking opportunities at the Expo were incredibly valuable. I had the chance to connect with professionals from across the industry, hear their career journeys, and gain insights into what it takes to succeed. Speaking with incredible leaders from different businesses helped give me inspiration for the type of leader I want to be.
Overall, my experience in the School of Business and Economics has been transformative. The combination of professional development opportunities and the support from the teachers and staff has prepared me to enter the workforce with confidence and makes me excited to see how my career will grow.
